Queenstown, NZ

Botswana Butchery DinnerThis is how we ended our Queenstown night after a week being here. Beauty surrounds you, in this little town which attracts people from all over the world, especially from Ireland. We were lucky enouch to be in Queenstown on St Patricks Day. We were never short of finding a pub to celebrate the day of friends. Pleanty of green, guiness, music and laugfhter was to be had. Fiddles and guitars playing happy Irish music.

The weather was raining but the locals and tourist did not mind as parts of the country are in a drought, even the lake was a metre lower than usually which we travelled on the TSS Earnslaw steam boat. The Earnslaw took us up the lake to Walter Peak, where we had lunch and sat back on the lakeside terrace of the Colonel’s Homestead Restaurant and savour the delicious aromas as our chef has the best of New Zealand produce, sizzling away on the grill. We cruised on back on the TSS Eranslaw and watched the clouds lift of the beautiful mountains. Time to find a nice cosy pub for a meal and a nice chat with the locals.

Next day and we were off to the Shotover Jet boat Ride . This was the most exlirateing thing that I have done for a long time. 360 degrees spin in the iconic ‘big reds’ through the spectacular Shotover River canyons.
